Santa Marta is a heavenly destination. One of those destinations that never go out of fashion to spend the holiday or just escape a weekend to rest. Although it is not a metropolis like Bogotá, Barranquilla or Cartagena, it has several areas where tourism is concentrated and which do not always make it easy to choose where to stay in Santa Marta.

The areas so you know where to stay in Santa Marta

 

Historical Center

This is perhaps the most famous and known area. This area of the city is full of the best bars , clubs , restaurants and hostels, making it the favorite of many, especially foreigners and groups of friends, as well as people traveling alone . This is also due to the fact that it is the part of the city where the vestiges of history are vivid and is easy to move around , since most of the buses pass through here, also the market is nearby, where you can take buses that go to Minca , Tayrona Park or Palomino . If you want to experience the magic of the city, this area is the best to stay in Santa Marta.

 

Rodadero

The Rodadero , is a part of the city only about 15 minutes aways by bus from the city center andto get there you have to go over the mountains, which offers beautiful views of both the city and El Rodadero . In this area you will usually find national tourists traveling with their families, due to that, in this part of the city you will not find much hostels to stay, but is possible is to rent an apartment to stay. Another good reason to visit is that it does not matter the day nor the season of the year, El Rodadero seems to always be on vacation. Here you can also find restaurants, bars, museums, shopping centers and  luxury hotel chains.

 

Taganga

Taganga is another area to stay in Santa Marta , choosen by foreigners to enjoy their stay in the city. It is very usual to find backpackers thanks to its low prices, as well as people who practice the slow travel  and want to soak up in the culture of the city. Beyond everything, Taganga offers unparalleled landscapes and the best sunsets in the city, not to mention the best Caribbean atmosphere and heavenly beaches.

 

Mamatoco

It is not very common, but this is another area to stay in Santa Marta . The area does not have a special feature like the previous ones, except for the residential environment, which transmits a familiar and quiet environment. To its surroundings is the Buenavista Shopping Mall and the San Pedro Alejandrino Quinta , asmany more places of more interest.
