Discover how to get to Guane and why you should visit this beautiful destination

Guane is a hidden gem in the department of Santander , and one of the most beautiful places to visit in this destination, especially in Barichara , as Guane is a corregimiento that is part of it. Once upon a time, Guane was a municipality but was relegated to the Barichara district because at that time the indigenous heritage and heritage of the civilization that inhabited here was not valued.

Guane , was a very extensive ancient indigenous civilization that inhabited much of the territory of Santander , but Moncora (now Barichara ) was the main capital. With the colonization, the Guane civilization was confined by the Spaniards to the corregimiento that today bears his name. This is how its history, its colonial architecture (very similar to that of Barichara , among other things), the vestiges of the indigenous culture found here make Guane a spectacular destination to visit in Santander . Find how to get there and what to do.

How to get to Guane?

To get to Guane you must first be in Barichara , as it is the easiest and fastest way to visit this municipality. You can find transportation from San Gil or Bucaramanga but it is a bit more difficult due to the frequency of departure to this destination .

From Barichara you can take a bus in the Main Square to Guane for an approximate value of 3,000 COP. However, if you want (and it is the most recommended) to have the full experience, you can get to Guane from Barichara by the Camino Real , a route that the Indians used to move to the capital and other places, so this road is full of history and amazing landscapes that will leave you in love. From Barichara to Guane on the Camino Real there are seven kilometers and the journey takes between an hour and a half and two hours depending on the pace with which you go.

What to do in Guane?

Guane is a small town of just over 400 inhabitants, which does not have many activities to do or places to visit , which makes it a destination that takes only one day to get to know. Even so, its size does not diminish its importance and the exceptional places it has.

First of all you must visit the Paleontological and Archaeological Museum , the main attraction of this place and that has a collection of more than 10,000 pieces found in this area among which are fossils and spears. The Lengerke Bridge is located on the way to Zapatoca and is another tourist attraction in Guane.

And another one is the River Canyon Lookout and the Los Yariguies Natural Park , which enjoys an impressive view. Now, among the best you can do in Guane is to explore and discover: its cobbled rustic streets, the contrast between its colonial and native architecture, the craft and fossil warehouses, and the Guane pictograms in caves and rocks.

In addition you can not miss trying its rich cuisine and typical drinks of this place like the girl and the sabajón.
